South Korea

A photographic summary of my 13 day trip to South Korea in June 2014. My first time travelling alone.

Day 1 | Seoul

Things in Korea are so cute. Even their police station.

 Gyeonbokgung Palace

Cheonggyecheon Stream

The hike up to Namsan Seoul Tower

Outdoor gyms they have around South Korea for anyone to use. This one was about half way up the route I took.

What I thought were piles of trash, turned out to be hundreds of Love Locks.

They even covered the railing overlooking the city.

Day 2 | Seoul

Lotte Town Star Avenue

Bongeunsa, Gangnam-gu

Seoul Forest, Seongdong-gu

The forest was used as a royal hunting ground, but now the approximately 1.16 million square metres are free to the public to visit, with an insect garden, a cultural art park, a wetlands ecological field and more.

Day 3 | Seoul

Bukchon Hanok Village, Jongno-gu

A rainy day in Seoul kept away the heat, but it also kept me from hiking in Bukhansan National Park. Instead I found these traditional houses stuck in middle of other modern shops and restaurants.

Myeongdong Catholic Cathedral, Jung-gu

Siloam Sauna, known as a jjimjilbang

Packed with people, food stalls, clothing shops, and so much more, this is the largest traditional market in Korea. I ended up coming back here on a quite evening.

I also walked back toward city hall, near Gyeonbokgung Palace.

Day 5 | Daegu

South Korea is full of what look like thin buildings, until you realise they are actually quite large, just very tall.

Day 6 | Daegu

Downtown Daegu. Not nearly as large as Seoul, but they do have some interesting places.

Day 7 | Busan

Dunkin' Donuts is popular there. Cute is more popular.

Gwangan bridge

Day 8 | Busan

Jagalchi Market

They cook the fish fresh outside their little restaurants where you can eat more fish than you could ever want, or eat, unless you have a group of people.

Great advertisements.

Haedong Yonggungsa Temple

Day 9 | Busan

Another cool and windy day. At the beach.

Day 10 | Gyeongju

Previously the capital, Gyeongju is full of tombs, temples, and more.

Bulguksa Temple

I never figured out what these little piles of rocks were, but there was a section full of them. They even covered the tops of the walls and the doors.

Seokguram grotto

I took a bus up from Bulguksa temple and when I woke up, we were surrounded by fog. Unfortunately, no pictures were allowed in the grotto.

Anapji Pond

Cheomseongdae Observatory

I happened upon this "tourist attraction" by accident. It is the oldest surviving astronomical observatory in East Asia.

Royal Tombs
